Lancaster Drive Public School nurtures the physical, emotional, social and intellectual development of all children through the leadership and guidance of a knowledgeable and caring staff.
We encourage the development of environmentally conscious students with an understanding of community and global issues.
Since Lancaster Drive P.S. opened in September 1991 it has consistently demonstrated excellence! It is a school to be proud of! It is currently home to approximately 400 pupils in the west end of Kingston. There are 22 classes in total from JK to Grade 8 with teachers, educational assistants and support staff to facilitate student learning and offer enrichment in many areas.
Lancaster has a large welcoming front foyer, an adjacent all-purpose room (we call it The Great Hall), a large gymnasium and library resource centre, and a computerized underground heating and cooling system. The site itself includes three
portable classrooms at the rear of the building. We are pleased to have Frontenac County Children's Centre as part of the school structure. The school yard extends into parkland for additional playground use.
Our student body adopted as its mascot "the lion or lioness". This animal was chosen as a symbol to encourage inquisitiveness, courage in the face of adversity, outstanding interest, caring, a physically-fit body and a vital life style of substance and importance. Our school motto is "Nurturing the Development of all Children". Our pupils have the opportunity to participate in challenging academic programmes and a wide variety of extracurricular activities.
The staff and members of the parent community are talented individuals willing to share their time and interests in working with students in a variety of school settings. At present, we offer many student leadership opportunities, instrumental music program, chess club, media and tech club, and a very active intramural and extramural athletic program.
Our pupils are encouraged to pursue individual academic excellence and work together as collaborative critical thinkers. At Lancaster Drive P.S., we continue to build upon our successes. Our School Improvement Plan
this year highlights three key areas: Language and Math instruction and maintaining a safe school environment. Our strategies to make improvements in each of these areas are in place to try to meet our goals. The staff, students and parents/guardians of Lancaster Drive Public School are committed to making our school a place where we can work together to provide the best opportunities for our students in a safe and caring environment. We highly value the involvement and expertise a shared partnership brings in helping all children meet the challenges in education with optimism and success.
The staff are caring individuals who, along with their dedication to teaching, share their time and energy to provide extended activities beyond the realm of the
classroom. We are very grateful for our parents and community partners. We have an exemplary Parent Activity Council who meet once a month to support school initiatives. All parents are welcomed and encouraged to attend.
We highly value the commitment of our staff, students and parents to make Lancaster a wonderful school community.
