"A Place to Read and Learn"
The Lancaster Drive School Resource Centre is one of the shining star areas of our school and we are proud to showcase this wonderful learning centre when we give a school tour. From the wide variety of books, magazines and reference maaterials, to the top notch computer lab, our Resource Centre houses something for everyone's learning needs. There are books for all ages and levels, from early and emerging readers to children who are reading at advanced levels.
We have over 11,000 books in circulation in our library system and we are really pleased with the signing out of books electronically. This helps us keep track of our resources over time. Students and staff can usse the Resource Desk computer to search for books using the author, book title or even the subject. This is a big help for those junior and intermediate projects! Our computer lab area houses over 30 computers which are all networked to the World Wide Web and our students are well-versed in computer technology beginning in the early primary grades.
The Resource Centre at Lancaster Drive Public School is also a gathering place for people who volunteer in our building. On any given day you will find volunteers reading with children, helping with assignments and homework and assisting our Education Assistant/Librarian with the organization and running of the Resource Centre on a daily basis. Thanks to all our volunteers - we couldn't do it without them! A plaque in our Resource Centre recognizes one of our former daily volunteers in the resource centre the late Pam Wolovick. Pam's motto was "Those who read lead."
Many of our families donate books to the school resource centre as a way of saying 'thanks' to teachers and the school. Parents can also choose to donate books to the school through the December book tree campaign, wherein your child's name is printed on the inside cover of the book as being the donor of that book in lieu of a gift for the classroom teacher.
What ever the season, our Resource Centre is always a happening place!
