You CAN Make a Difference ...on the School Council
                        
School Council Positions                                                                                                                                 

All parent member positions on council are open for election at the first school council meeting  in September.


Chair*
Chairs all meetings of council, sets agendas and schedules meetings (in consultation with the principal), promotes discussion amongs t council members and the community,
receives and reports on correspondence sent and received by Council, acts as coordinator between the School Board and Council receives documentation from Board and keeps
Council advised of Board decisions, activities, etc.
Vice Chair*
Chairs meetings in the absence of the Chair, performs other duties as assigned by Council.
~The Chair and Vice Chair position can be combined by two parents to form a Co Chair position, with the duties described above being split between the two parents.
Secretary
Records, maintains and distributes minutes of meetings, keeps non-financial records of council.
Treasurer
Administers to the finances of Council, maintains Council’s financial records, prepares and presents to Council regular financial reports.
Fundraising Coordinator
Plans and manages fundraising activities of Council, working closely with Volunteer Coordinator.
Volunteer Coordinator
Coordinates volunteers and volunteer activities, recruits volunteers, maintains information and records pertaining to volunteer activities, works closely with school staff and other Council members.
Public Relations Coordinator
Publicizes meeting of Council, edits the School Council newsletter – “Together in Education” or “T.I.E.”.
Past Chair or
Member at Large
Duties as prescribed by Council
Community Representative
Appointed Position, Volunteers required
Represents members of the community on the Council, acts as a resource to Council. Must not be the parent or guardian of a child attending LDPS, or an employee of LDPS. If employed by the Board, this information must be made public. Must live or work within the catchment area of the school.
a.    *If a Chair or Co Chair is reelected as Chair or Co Chair for a second term, the Past Chair position will be an elected position and referred to as Member at Large.
b.    If a minimum of 5 Parent Members of Council are returning members, the Past Chair position will be an elected position and referred to as Member at Large.
c.    If neither (a) nor (b) occurs, the outgoing Chair or Co Chair will be offered the position of Past Chair. If they do not want to accept the position, an election will be held for a member at large.
