School Update
Dear Families,
The addition of an extra day this weekend provides a little space to allow life to slow down. Hopefully, the found time has given your family an opportunity to share life together in whatever form that comes in. We look forward to celebrating 2-22-2022 TWOSDAY and PINK Shirt Day in the building this week. Students can deck themselves out in tutus, t-shirts, ties, tiaras and will engage in various classroom activities and a school-wide 2 minute dance party at 2:22! Pink Shirt Day t-shirts can still be purchased at the Boys and Girls club and we will be focusing on the power of kindness in our building.
Report cards were distributed to students on Friday who were present; those who stayed home due to the inclement weather day will receive their report card on Tuesday. Please connect with your child's teacher if you have any questions about your child's progress and achievement.
COVID Protocol Updates:
- outdoor masking when children are with their cohort is no longer required, although some students may continue to choose to wear their masks (please connect with your child's teacher regarding your family's preference if need be)
- Public Health has removed mandatory masking for Kindergarten students: Kindergarten children will continue to be encouraged and supported by staff to wear their masks when indoors, but it is not required
- Students in Grades 1-8 continue to be required to wear masks indoors (unless they have an exemption)
- Use of wind instruments and singing is permitted with the use of as much distance as possible and use of large, well-ventilated spaces. The activity must be within a cohort and a minimum distance of two metres or more can be maintained.
- In both elementary and secondary health and physical education classes. Masking is not required when playing high or low-contact activities outdoors. Masking is required for indoor sports when not actively engaged in the activity. Masks can be removed when actively participating in the activity if they cannot be worn safely while participating.
Thank you for continuing to do the daily COVID-19 screener, and for keeping your children home when required: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/

SCHOOL COUNCIL SUCCESS! - MOTION PASSED AT CITY COUNCIL MEETING:
This past week and since the tragedy on Lancaster Drive the school councils from Mother Teresa, Lancaster and Holy Cross have been connecting with City Councillor Lisa Osanic and school administration. Part of what has come out of their discussion was an opportunity to put forward a motion at this week's City Council meeting. The meeting took place over the course of Tuesday and Wednesday evening due to its length. At this meeting the motion was passed which includes these areas of focus:
- Upgraded and larger signage for the north side of Lancaster Drive with NO STOPING/NO PARKING
- Approval of a crossing guard at the corner of Lancaster/Limestone - process of staffing this position has been initiated.
- Establish a School Pedestrian Safety Working Group composed of representatives from school boards and parent councils of those school boards, Kingston Police, City staff and a City Councillor
The pro-active efforts of our School Council, particularly Co-Chair Scott Snow, are greatly appreciated and we acknowledge them as partners in our collective interest of student safety. This was a big win for our community. : )
Thank you to our School Council for this thoughtful gesture for staff on Valentine's Day!
IT WAS SUCH A DELIGHT TO SEE STUDENTS EXPERIENCE VALENTINES DAY TOGETHER THIS YEAR: WHITE GLUE, KIND MESSAGES AND YUMMY TREATS!
Student Rapid Antigen Testing Kits
Rapid antigen test kits can be provided for students, and staff that develop symtoms at school. Please let us know if you require additional test kits if you are picking up a symptomatic student from school.
Please follow these instruction when using the Rapid Antigen Test Kit .
KFL&A Masking Protocol Changes for LDSB
KFL&A has updated the masking protocol for schools. Students are no longer required to wear masks when they are outdoors and in their cohorts. This means that when students are outside with their class cohorts for phys. ed or for recess, they do not have to keep their masks on.
A reminder that arrival and dismissal times have many students crossing different areas of the yard to get to their cohort lineup spots. Students should keep their masks on until they get to their designated lineup with their class cohort. Masks are still required indoors and on school transportation. Staff will remind students to put their masks on prior to entering the school building and prior to boarding a school
