LEARNING COMPANION CHALLENGE: PET PARADE WEEK!
Hey Lions, we want to see your learning companions! Calling all birds, dogs, hamsters, ferrets, fish, cats, or even a special stuffie! Our challenge this week is for you to capture of picture of your pet during remote learning. Do they curl up at your toes, walk across your keyboard, sit on your shoulder, slobber on your schoolwork, go out for recess with you? Information on where to upload your picture will be in your classroom this week! Entries due by Thursday, January 13th : )
School Update
Dear Families,
We had a busy week switching to remote and know all of you did as well. Together, with staff support, we handed out almost 110 devices to our families. Thank you to all of our students, families, care-givers and our staff for making this week so successful. We had excellent attendance and participation in our classes and we know this is not easy.
A few things:
- Students will participate in both synchronous (live) and asynchronous (independent) learning activities. Your child's teacher will have provided you with a timetable so that you are aware of when the synchronous learning activities will take place. Please ensure that your child checks their LDSB email/virtual classroom at the beginning of each day to ensure that they remember when the online lessons and activities will take place. All teachers will follow the regular school timetable, with nutrition breaks/recess from 10:30-11:10 and 12:50-1:40. There will be no online supervision of students during these times.
- Attendance: Teachers will be taking attendance each day, by checking to see if students are online during synchronous learning, or by checking to see that students are accessing the asynchronous learning activities. Our teachers know that learning from home may look differently for different families: please don't hesitate to communicate with your child's teacher to discuss your unique situation, and ensure that you are receiving the information and support needed to provide continuity of learning for your child.
- At this time we have a small but mighty team who are back teaching and learning at the school. Unfortunately, this is only available to students with significant needs and intensive support.
- Feedback: If your child really liked an activity that they did online this week - how about a positive note to the teacher/staff member? This will help future planning and fill some cups at the same time :)
Hoping everyone has enjoyed the weekend and some time off of devices. If you need support, please reach out to your child's teacher or the office. The office remains open throughout the week from 8:30-3:00.
