A Message from your Lancaster Spirit Ministry!
Happy Hanukkah to our Families celebrating!
Many Jewish communities in Canada mark the first day of Hanukkah, which marks the start of Hanukkah, also known as Chanukah or Festival of Lights. Hanukkah is an eight-day Jewish observance that remembers the Jewish people's struggle for religious freedom.
Our Minstry of Caring are our Leaders in Caring! Check out their next project!
Dear Lancaster Families
This year our Ministry of Caring leaders have chosen to support Interval House for our holiday campaign. Kingston Interval House is a local agency in Kingston, Ontario that provides 24-hour safe emergency shelter, community-based counselling services and Second Stage Housing to women, youth and children who have experienced violence.
The Ministry of Caring team is hoping, with everyone's help, to be able to put together gift boxes for the women and children living at the shelter, and possibly some of their outreach clients (the waiting list for shelter beds is long).
Classes that are participating will receive a letter to send home to families tomorrow. Each class will be asked to contribute a specific item, and then the caring ministry will put together and wrap the boxes. If families would prefer sending a gift card instead of an item, there will be a list of the most useful gift cards.
The collection period is from Monday, November 29th to Friday, December 10th (the next two weeks). We will bring around baskets or boxes to classes on Monday to store the items, then we will gather them on Friday, December 10th. Ministry of Caring leaders will come around for a brief visit to classrooms (at the door) on Monday and Tuesday to generate excitement and explain the campaign.
CANDY CANES SALES:
The Ministry of Spirit and Ministry of Caring are working together on the candy cane sales this year. The proceeds from this event will also go towards Interval House.
WINTER WARMTH: MITTENS, HATS AND SCARVES:
Finally, our Winter Warmth campaign will also support this campaign, as some of the items collected will be warm mittens, scarves and hats.
Thanks for your kind support of this student-led project. ❤️

School Update
Dear Families,
We have let our student voice be highlighted in this week's family update as you have read with the many upcoming initiatives from our Spirit Ministries. We are grateful for the opportunities staff have provided students to grow and experience this part of school life, both through our Ministry work and sports teams. Our Boys and Girls Volleyball teams have represented Lancaster well at their first few games this season - the growth in skill and team camaraderie has been wonderful to see.
Students in grades 4-8 at Lancaster have been participating in our school climate survey this week. School Climate is defined as “the learning environment and relationships found within a school and school community.” This year's questions are designed to dive deeper into findings from recent board-wide student surveys, specifically the recent Student Census and the Mental Health and Substance Use Survey. We look forward to being able to review our results and using them to be proactive in our school planning. We want to ensure students at Lancaster develop a sense of belonging, a connection to each other and have pathways to get help when needed to support their mental health and well-being.
It is important that all students continue to be screened every day using the online active screening tool:

Please keep your children home when indicated and follow Public Health directives to get tested: we continue to work hard at the school to ensure that students are being vigilant about adhering to Covid protocols, and appreciate families doing their part as well.
Your leaders in learning,
Lani Fox and Sara O'Hearn
