School Update
71 Lancaster athletes qualified for the final cross country race last week at Fort Henry. Greeted by a mix of weather, our runners persevered and demonstrated a true sense of team. We celebrated as an entire team with a special treat on Friday, and set our sights on the return of another running season in the spring. For now, we will rest our running legs and keep active as we explore the outdoors and other sports. It is clear that some students got the running bug so you may see them out and about in the community. Well done Lions!
A big THANK YOU to Mr. Breadner and son Che at TheMomentisCaptured.com for his incredible work in taking both still shots and video footage of our team at the race. See the link in this newsletter to view the video and photos of our individual and team efforts - no nice to have this captured for families and students.
We are excited to see the return of our student leadership opportunities as we relaunch our Lancaster Ministries. Our Ministry of Caring looks at ways to bring caring for each other into our building, and caring out into our wider community. They will be looking for ways to bring forward student voice and contribute to every Lion’s sense of belonging at Lancaster. Our Spirit Ministry looks at ways to build school spirit and some of the fun and joy as we share experiences together. This might mean spirit days, pumpkin carving contest, class challenges and events. Our Athletics Ministry helps to organize play days, Fitgo, intramurals and ways to get our students moving! All of these ministries help build student voice, engagement and bring wonderful things into our building. Thank you to these student leaders and to the staff who volunteer to provide these opportunities for students to build and grow these important skill sets.
On Friday, October 29th we will have a Black & Orange spirit day! This is always a fun day and a fun way for us to bring joy to kids and staff alike. We can't wait to see your black & orange combinations!
Data Verification Forms went home last week and we had a solid return rate as classes worked to be the first classes to have all of their forms on. The two winning classes will receive a pizza or milkshake party! It is essential that your child return the form so that we have the most up-to-date information for your child entered into our data system. Forms must be returned even if there are no changes to your child's information.
PHASE 2 of Data Verification - Freedom of Information and Computer Use Agreement
Phase 2 of the Data Verification is ready. This process is being used to replace the paperwork usually sent home to collect updated Freedom of Information (FOI) data and updated Digital Use Agreement for the current school year. These forms allow you to decide what information the school is able to share or not (i.e. photos on twitter, newsletter, etc), and allows your child use of LDSB platforms and devices by agreeing to the terms and online code of conduct. PLEASE USE THE LINK IN THE SECTION BELOW TO COMPLETE PHASE TWO.
Your leaders in learning,
Lani Fox and Sara O'Hearn
DIGITAL ACCEPTABLE USE AND FREEDOM OF INFORMATION
Please complete the Digital Acceptable Use and Freedom of Information form attached below. This information is important for us as part of the Data Verification process
You will be asked to agree that to the terms and agreements of technology use at school, and the policies and procedures of the Limestone District School Board.
You will also be asked to agree or disagree with student information being shared in different formats.
This will take roughly 4 minutes to complete. Thank you.
Welcome to Ms. Dowker’s new addition!!

How Can I Ensure our family is receiving School Day emails?
- Within School Day go to settings (gear icon) and ensure that you have your preferences set to receive email notifications. Without this setting turned on, you will have to
- You can also often set a "rule" within your email account/platform (Outlook, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.) to have emails from School Day go directly to your inbox, i.e. "this is not junk".
Taking these steps is important so that emails come to your attention and you don't miss permission forms and product items available for purchase.

COVID SCREENER LOOK FORS
Willow Youth Network (Formally known as Indigo Girls Group)
Willow Youth Network, formally known as Indigo Girls Group, is an organization run by young feminists for young feminists. In a non-pandemic world, WYN Kingston educates and engages youth in grades 4-8 in discussions about current topics facing the young generation. Clubs foster a safe space for learning and analysis of topics such as self-care, anti-oppression, mental well-being, women in STEM, and much more. These subjects and methods of delivery promote personal growth, increased self-esteem, and mental and physical well-being.
We recognize that much of the language used in WYN's -- previously known as Indigo Girls Group -- programming and even within our name, is not inclusive to transgender and non-binary people. We are working to become a safer and more inclusive space for everyone who would like to be a part of a feminist-led organization that works to empower marginalized genders.
After exploring alternatives to safely accommodate the current circumstances brought on by Covid-19, we have decided to create virtual weekly modules for girls to complete at their own pace. Each module will focus on a societal theme affecting youth of marginalized genders and will include videos, discussions, and interactive activities.
Modules will be released at indigogirlsgroup.com under ‘Kingston Branch’ each Friday starting on October 29th, 2021, for 6 weeks.
