School Update
Dear Families,
We had a great week back after the break and students adapted well to the changes on the schoolyard and demonstrated respect for choices around masking. Despite the dusting of snow we are ready to welcome spring. You will see in some of the photos in this newsletter that student life is busy with hands-on learning and new opportunities for student engagement are emerging. We look forward to getting started with running club for students in grades 3-8 this week with a meeting on Monday. Our regular schedule of practices Tuesday and Thursday after school and Friday at lunch will begin next week - information will be sent home this week with interested students.
We are also planning spring events as a staff that will take place over the next few months. Assemblies, school-wide events and field trips are in the works which will be a welcome return to coming together in different ways once again.
PARENT REMINDERS:
- Please do not use the staff parking lot for the purpose of dropping off or picking up your child - additional vehicles at these times is counterintuitive to preserving a safe space for all students. Students can be dropped off using the laybys on Lancaster Drive or drive-thru zone, and then use the walkways on either side of the school to walk to the playground at the back of the school.
- We continue to require families to remain off the main pavement area during drop-off and pick-up times. This practice has had a positive impact on student safety as we are more clearly able to see students connecting with families as they wait at the path or make their way to their meeting spot at the beginning of the day.
Your leaders in learning,
Lani Fox and Sara O'Hearn

Our First Annual Lancaster Drive Public School Read-A-Thon starts on Sunday March 20th!
By sponsoring a student in the Lancaster Drive Public School Read-A-Thon, you are encouraging them to strengthen their literacy skills, and contributing to learning/teaching resources to enhance their educational experience. 100% of the funds raised will contribute to these resources.
Here's how it works: Students are to collect sponsors from family, friends or loved ones and bring in all donations at the END of the Read-a-Thon. Pledge forms will be coming home with students on March 21st. Cash or Cheque (payable to LDPS) will be accepted. We are asking for a minimum $2.00 participation fee from each student who would like to participate. Each student who participates will be treated to a MILK SHAKE party in the spring on behalf of the School Advisory Council. Any questions, please email ldpssac@gmail.com
Extended French at L'Acadie
Module de l’Acadie is a grade 7-8 school that offers two types of French Immersion programming for students in our catchment area:
-Early French Immersion for students already enrolled in French Immersion in grade 6
-Extended French Immersion, as part of LDSB’s Choices at 7 programs. This program is designed to develop students’ skills in French. Through this immersion experience, students will communicate and interact in French with growing confidence and fluency. The program implements the Ontario curriculum and provides authentic experiences as well as marketable second language skills. The Extended French Immersion program accepts students who are currently in Grade 6 Core French and who have a desire to learn in French across most of the curriculum areas. Please see the LDSB site for more information: https://www.limestone.on.ca/programming/choices_at_7
For more information, please join us for our virtual information event on Thursday, March 31st at 6:30pm. Link for Acadie Open House Live Event March 31

Virtual School 2022-23
Virtual School 2022-2023: The board has begun planning for September 2022 including the continuation of our Virtual Schools for K to 12 students who learn best in the online environment, or who require a virtual environment due to underlying medical conditions for themselves or for family members. Collecting some preliminary information now will allow us to do some necessary planning.
Families wishing to have their elementary school student(s) enrolled in the LDSB Elementary Virtual School for September 2022, will need to complete the EVS Survey to confirm their interest by March 21, 2022, even if their student was in the Elementary Virtual School this year.

KFL&A Masking Protocol Changes for LDSB
KFL&A has updated the masking protocol for schools. Students are no longer required to wear masks when they are outdoors and in their cohorts. This means that when students are outside with their class cohorts for phys. ed or for recess, they do not have to keep their masks on.
A reminder that arrival and dismissal times have many students crossing different areas of the yard to get to their cohort lineup spots. Students should keep their masks on until they get to their designated lineup with their class cohort. Masks are still required indoors and on school transportation. Staff will remind students to put their masks on prior to entering the school building and prior to boarding a school
Student Rapid Antigen Testing Kits
Rapid antigen test kits can be provided for students, and staff that develop symtoms at school. Please let us know if you require additional test kits if you are picking up a symptomatic student from school.
Please follow these instruction when using the Rapid Antigen Test Kit .
