Terry Fox Event
Lancaster's school-wide Terry Fox Event has been rescheduled to Friday, October 13th. As is traditional every year, students will be taking time throughout the week to learn about Terry Fox and make connections with to his story of incredible determination, courage and HOPE. Each student will be provided with a running shoe to colour and fill out “I’m running for…” which will be displayed all through the halls of the school. On the day of the event, students will be walking the loop through the community.
This year we will be collecting “Toonies for Terry” to help continue the legacy of one of our greatest Canadian heroes. If you wish to donate, please send toonies with your child to school that day. You can also donate at: https://schools.terryfox.ca/LancasterDrivePSKingston Thank you for joining us in the fight against cancer! #terryfoxschoolrun @theterryfoxfoundation
Headlice Checks
Please take a moment to read the information from the Canadian Paediatric Society on head lice: What does head lice look like? How do they spread? How to check for it? How to you treat head lice.
We remind families to check often for head lice as part of their routines.
Cyber Awareness Month
The K-12 Cyber Awareness Month (CAM) campaign is an annual event occurring in October with the goal of promoting safer and more secure online and digital technology practices across publicly funded schools in Ontario. The campaign includes multiple tailored resources covering best practices in cyber safety, cyber security, and online privacy for K-12.
This year’s K-12 CAM campaign theme is “Together we rise: Cyberheroes unite for online safety!” It is designed to empower K-12 sector with a mission to foster a generation of cyberheroes who are equipped with the knowledge and skills to protect themselves and others in cyberspace. In today’s online world it is essential to learn online safety practices, such as creating strong passwords, identifying phishing attempts, and safeguarding personal information.
By instilling a sense of responsibility and unity, the campaign aims to create environments where young cyberheroes can confidently navigate the virtual landscape and stand up against cyber threats. Together, we rise to the challenge, creating a safer digital society, one cyberhero at a time.
How Do I get Information From The School?
LDSB schools and school board use School Messenger to send key messages, alerts and general communication to families. Lancaster uses this platform and will continue to use our Together In Education to provide updates to families. These newsletters are where we will share school-specific information and highlights of student work and events in the building. This newsletter is sent out via School Messenger and posted on our school Twitter account and website.
SchoolMessenger App: Download the SchoolMessenger App to stay connected. Use your mobile device to download and install the free SchoolMessenger blue app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store, the SchoolMessenger website portal, or from within the LDSB mobile app. *New families will be able to create their account after the first day of attendance.
The first time you use the app, you must select Sign Up to create your account. Please ensure you use the same email address your student’s school has on file. If you do not use that same email address, you will not be able to create an account.
School Day Online Payments
We are paperless and cashless at Lancaster. We use the platform School Day for online payments (field trips, milkshake days, etc) and for digital permission slip signatures. ALL families are required to sign up using their child's individual match key that will be provided within the first weeks of school.
