Limestone Students Shine at the 2026 Ontario Skills Competition

Limestone District School Board students showcased their outstanding skills and talent at the 2026 Skills Ontario Competition, held in Toronto on May 4 and 5, 2026.The Skills Ontario Competition offers a unique opportunity for top students from across the province to demonstrate that they are truly the best in their field. Over two and a half days, competitors impress educators, family members, friends, and potential employers through hands-on, real‑world challenges. Students will be sent home this week with pledge forms and all the necessary details. The Read-A-Thon will run from April 27th to May 8th. There are some great prizes to be won.The Lancaster Fun Fair is taking place on Saturday, June 13th from 1-4pm. There will be inflatables, face painting, cotton candy, raffle baskets, Kona Ice, games and so much more. We will also be hosting and end of year book fair during the Fun Fair, this is a great opportunity to get some new books for summer reading and support the schools literacy program! Keep an eye out for more information to be sent home with students in early May.To create the Fun Fair raffle baskets, each class will have a theme for donations and tickets for the baskets can be bought during the Fun Fair.  More details to be sent home shortly. <h2 class="editor-heading-h2">EQAO Communication</h2>Re: EQAO Pre-Administration Letter  Re: Upcoming EQAO Assessment  Dear Families,  Between May 19 and June 2, your student will be taking part in the provincial Assessment of Reading, Writing and Mathematics, Primary Division (Grades 1–3) or Junior Division (Grades 4–6). These assessments, developed by Ontario teachers and assessment experts, are administered to all Grade 3 and Grade 6 students in Ontario’s publicly funded school system by the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO). EQAO Dates @ Lancaster May 22nd, May 25th and 26th-DeeMay 25th, 26th and 27th-Vandyke June 2nd, 4th and 5th-Tidman, Scovill & JarbeauJune 2nd, 4th and 5th-SmithEach assessment includes a language and mathematics component, along with a voluntary student questionnaire. During the assessment, students will complete four language sessions and four mathematics stages that each take approximately 30 minutes to complete. Each session or stage will be completed in one continuous sitting, and the sessions and stages may be administered throughout the administration dates. Students will have the opportunity to become familiar with the types of questions on the assessment and its platform through EQAO’s online sample test. The EQAO assessment questions are directly based on the expectations set out in The Ontario Curriculum for reading, writing and mathematics, which are what teachers teach in the classroom every day. Therefore, your child does not need to prepare in any special way. Students will complete the assessment in their regular classrooms with their current teachers and are simply encouraged to do their best and show what they know. In the fall, EQAO will share individual reports for all our students. Your student’s results are private and will give you an indication of their achievement in relation to Ontario’s provincial standard. The standard, or Level 3, represents the range from B– to B+. Meeting the standard means your student has a solid grasp of the required knowledge and skills, which is a good indication that they will be ready for the next grade. This means students are learning simple, step-by-step strategies to help them plan their ideas, stay on track while writing, and think about how they did afterward.As students practice these skills, they are becoming more independent and thoughtful writers. We are already seeing great progress, and it has been wonderful to watch students take pride in their work.During a recent PA Day on April 17th, our staff worked together to look at student writing across the school and place samples along a shared writing continuum. Upcoming Family Engagement and Climate Survey

The Limestone District School Board is inviting families to take part in the Family Engagement and Climate Survey. This survey gives families an opportunity to share their experiences with their student’s school and with the school board.The feedback helps us understand what is working well and where we can improve. It also supports schools and school councils in building welcoming, safe, and supportive school communities.The survey includes questions about:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">How schools communicate and share information</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">Whether families feel welcome, included, and connected</li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem">Barriers to taking part in school activities, such as time, childcare, language, accessibility, or cost</li><li value="4" class="editor-listitem">Safety and bullying, including reporting and follow‑up</li><li value="5" class="editor-listitem">Licensed Before and After School Programs, including questions to help inform future planning</li><li value="6" class="editor-listitem">Some questions ask about family background to help us better understand different experiences across our communities</li></ul>Participation is voluntary and anonymous. Families may skip any questions they choose. No names or identifying information are collected. Results are shared only as grouped summaries and are used to support learning, planning, and improvement at the board, school, and school council levels.The survey will be open from May 1 to May 11 and will be available online. Families will receive an e-mail on May 1 with a link to the survey. Students will be sent home this week with pledge forms and all the necessary details. The Read-A-Thon will run from April 27th to May 8th. There are some great prizes to be won.The Lancaster Fun Fair is taking place on Saturday, June 13th from 1-4pm. There will be inflatables, face painting, cotton candy, raffle baskets, Kona Ice, games and so much more. It also teaches them important skills like how to plan their ideas, check their work as they go, and reflect on how they did.By learning these skills, students are becoming more independent and thoughtful writers. Message from the Director

Dear Families,As we enter the spring season and final third of the school year, we are reminded of this season’s promise of renewal and growth, and the key role schools and families have together in supporting student learning and well-being. While this week has been very wet and rainy, the warmer temperatures of spring are upon us.  I would like to take this opportunity to share a few important updates with you:P.A. Day – Friday, April 17A reminder to families that tomorrow, Friday, April 17, is a P.A. Day. There will be no classes for students, and we look forward to welcoming them back to school on Monday.Family Engagement and Climate Survey – Coming in MayIn early May, Limestone will be inviting families to take part in a Family Engagement and Climate Survey. The optional survey is anonymous, and families can choose which questions they want to answer.The survey asks about topics such as feeling connected to school, family involvement, safety and bullying, communication, before- and after-school programming, and how technology like artificial intelligence is used in schools.The feedback shared through this survey helps schools and the school board understand what is working well, what could improve, and what may make it harder for some families to take part. It also teaches them important skills like how to plan their ideas, check their work as they go, and reflect on how they did.By learning these skills, students are becoming more independent and thoughtful writers. Tickets will be sold for 2 for $1.00 or 5 for $2.00. We will also be selling raffle tickets for a candy jar guessing game for the same price. We are grateful to Mrs. Tidman and Ms. Smith for their leadership in this school wide initiative. We will also be having some fun school wide challenges with daily math riddles, estimation jars and spirit days. Dear Lancaster Families,It’s hard to believe that we are only one week away from March Break. It has certainly been a long winter, and we are all looking forward to the arrival of spring.There have been several changes at Lancaster recently, and we remain committed to providing as much consistency as possible for our learners and families. With recent staffing updates, we would like to formally introduce and warmly welcome a few new members to the Lancaster community.A big welcome to Ms. Scovill and Ms. Billen, who have joined our Primary and Junior divisions. Ms. Scovill joined us following Ms. Dowdell’s retirement at the end of Term One. Ms. Billen will be stepping in for Mrs. Hamilton in the Grade 4 class and supporting Mr Dee's class during the morning math block. In addition, Ms. Forbes has been covering for Madame Bacile.We were also pleased to welcome Ms. Dew and Ms. Elyea to our Educational Assistant support team.We would like to extend a special shout-out to our incredible Senior Basketball teams, who both had wonderful seasons. The Limestone District School Board (LDSB) is pleased to announce the appointment of its 2026–2027 Student Trustees, who will be formally welcomed at the April meeting of the Board.Student trustees play an important role in bringing student perspectives to board-level discussions, helping ensure that student voice is reflected in decision-making across the district. Limestone DSB Schools to Participate in Kingston Community Climate Action Fund FoodCycler Project

Limestone District School Board schools will participate in this year’s Kingston Community Climate Action Fund (KCCAF) initiative, supported by the City of Kingston and led by Sustainable Kingston. The project aims to turn everyday school lunch waste into meaningful climate action by introducing FoodCyclers in five to seven local elementary schools, with the long-term goal of securing a unit for each elementary school across the City of Kingston. These units will complement existing food-based programming and serve as an additional hands-on learning tool for students.The initiative will help divert organic waste from student snacks and lunches away from landfill.
